Good first novel in a series. Our protagonist is a Djinn. As this is written in first-person limited mode, we*re in Alisse's mind from the get-go. Often a writer working is first person will slip and "insert " knowledge into the narration which is NOT available to the narrator. There are no errors of this type. In fact, in spite of the fast-paced action, there are no errors in the novel to interrupt the flow of the story.Product details

Burned A Magic Bullet Novel Volume 1 A Blythe 9780692696798 Books Reviews
An interesting world, with Djinn and Demi-angels around. The main character was an Agent, but has now had her magical powers and abilities manacled so they are no longer accessible to her. She now had no powers, no money, and nearly no friends.
While it is a good story, I have to wonder about her skill as an Agent, despite her frequent claims of being one of the best. All during the story she consistently makes the most rooky of mistakes and assumptions. You can cover up some of this by saying she is used to covering her deadly errors with her overbearing magical skills, but Buffy in her second year as Slayer was more of an agent.
Alyse is a djinni, attached to a special supernatural team hunting those who misuse their power. When a case goes wrong, Alyse wakes up in her hometown of Philadelphia, with copper bracelets on, which eliminate her powers. Trapped in her human form, Alyse, with the aid of her friends, must discover who has done this to her. In the meantime, she gets sucked into a murder mystery; who is killing. the Nephilim and magicians in Philadelphia?

Annabel Chase has created a fantastic new world, one in which humans, genies, angels and magicians all co-exist. The characters are brought to life in Chase's writing, and the storyline is riveting. This is sure to be one series I will be enjoying for a long time to come.
This is the first book I've ready by A. Blythe, and I enjoyed it very much. The main character was a kick ass, gung-ho heroine, who finds herself in an extremely difficult position when her magical powers are snuffed out for some as yet unknown reason. This is the makings of the start of a series, in which A. Blythe has created some genuinely interesting characters, and in the main protagonist's situation, some unique issue for her to overcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the storytelling, and A. Blythe's first person writing style with a touch of snark was most entertaining. There were a couple of points during the story where I felt some pieces of information were being repeated unnecessarily, and where the pacing felt a little bit off, but it wasn't enough to detract from the reading experience. I will definitely move onto the second book in the Magic Bullet series. Highly recommended.
I thought that a djinn main character would be interesting but this protagonist went from almost all powerful to no power in the first pages and then spends the rest of the book complaining about it and getting her tail kicked. The world and some of the cast of characters were just interesting enough to keep me reading but the author needs to get this character's feet under her quickly.
Burned is a fun and witty tale with a smart-mouthed heroine and fabulous characters. The story kicks along at a great pace and the world is filled with intriguing creatures of all shades. Definitely worth the romp!
'Burned' surprised me. I had read previous reviews and saw that this book resembled the tv show, though I never watched it, I found this book extremely entertaining and unique. The story line was well written and the way it played out had me glued to the pages. The characters were a vast array of beings and personalities. Alyse was an awesome lead. I loved her humor and sarcasm. She has an uncanny ability of pissing off a lot of people. But to be fair, she does have good reason. I look forward to reading more in this series.
This is an enjoyable urban fantasy book with a new take on the djinn in the modern world.
The offspring of djinn and human can be mages, and A. Blythe has created a world where djinn, mages, humans, Nephalim and others all interact. One djinn with a laundry list of enemies has had her powers taken away and she's sent back to the City of Brotherly Love. It seems Philadelphia isn't as friendly as its title suggests and former agent Alyse Winters has to look up some friends and not-so-friends to figure out just what is going on.
The book moves along at a good pace, and the descriptions and characters are engaging.
This is the first book in a series, and I am eager to read the next one.
